Working with LIVESENS Inc. during the Advance Ontario: April 2025 Cohort on the Real-Time Sensor Data Processing and Optimization project has been an enriching and professionally rewarding experience. The employer provided an excellent balance between guidance and autonomy, enabling me to explore innovative solutions for pedestrian detection and counting using YOLO-based computer vision models. The mentorship from the LIVESENS team was particularly valuable, as they were approachable, supportive, and always ready to provide constructive feedback. They encouraged experimentation, leading to productive iterations using various tracking algorithms such as ByteTrack and DeepSORT. Regular check-ins and clear communication allowed me to continuously refine my technical approach, balancing performance and accuracy effectively. Furthermore, the emphasis on practical, real-world applications provided a clear context and motivation for the work, ensuring that the developed solutions had tangible impacts. Challenges such as optimizing models for hardware limitations were particularly insightful, enhancing my technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills significantly. Overall, this experience has greatly improved my understanding of real-time sensor data processing, enhanced my collaborative and communication abilities, and provided a strong foundation for future professional endeavors.

Remora Sensor Suite Enclosure Redesign for Weatherproofing

The Remora Sensor Suite, developed by LIVESENS Inc., is a modular system designed to collect real-time environmental and movement data from vehicles. The current prototype enclosure needs a redesign to ensure it meets the demands of outdoor deployment. The primary challenge is to create an enclosure that is durable, waterproof, and capable of withstanding various environmental conditions such as rain, dust, vibration, and temperature fluctuations. Additionally, the enclosure must be designed for easy and secure attachment to a variety of vehicle types, including options like rooftop bars, suction mounts, or permanent brackets. The design should also minimize aerodynamic drag and added vehicle height while allowing easy access for maintenance tasks such as camera cleaning and SD card swapping. The project aims to balance robustness, manufacturability, and ease of maintenance, ultimately bringing the updated design from concept to prototyping.

Real-Time Computer Vision

The objective of this project is to develop a real-time computer vision solution for accurately counting people in a moving environment. Using advanced image processing techniques and leveraging both C++ and Python, learners will design, implement, and optimize algorithms that can detect, track, and count individuals as they move through a scene. The project will culminate in a working prototype that demonstrates robust and real-time performance, even under varying lighting conditions and dynamic backgrounds, providing a practical solution for applications such as crowd monitoring and public space management.
